All-abilities adults' bowed strings jam

All-abilities adults' bowed strings jam

Brighthelm Church and Community CentreBrighton
Wednesday, Mar 18 from 2:30 pm to 3:45 pm GMT
Overview

Playing and listening together for fun and self-expression. Don't have an instrument? Use one of ours! No music-reading required.

'I feel lighter - what a treat!'

'Such fun to be playful'

We're delighted to announce our all-abilities bowed strings jam session at Brighthelm, on Wednesday 18th March, 2:30-3:45pm; free spaces for 50+ - and no experience necessary!

What do we do at our jam sessions? We use stringed instruments - cellos, violas, and violins - to make sounds and music together. This is place where there's no 'right' or 'wrong' sound - it's a playful session where we enjoy exploring instruments together and the interesting sounds they make. Confident musicians and complete beginners are equally welcome - we provide the instruments (or feel free to bring your own).

The themes of the session are exploration, listening, playfulness, self-expression, and creating together. This is a light-hearted and supportive session, with fun and wellbeing as the focus: like a friendly campfire jam session, where every sound is welcome.

Adults of all ages are welcome, for a small donation - free places for people aged 50+

'It's so freeing to play without music'

'It was amazing to play with the others, to hear what was happening, and to join in'

'When I learned violin as a child I was never told to listen to the instrument. This is the first time I'm listening to the sounds I'm making - it's lovely'

'I was flabbergasted at how much I enjoyed it and got out of it. I've never held a stringed instrument before and I just loved getting a note out of the cello'
