About this event

Please note: students don't need to have completed All Levels Printmaking 1 to take part in this course.

This five-week course introduces intaglio printing techniques (drypoint etching and collagraph). Each week, the tutor will guide students through new techniques, allowing them to explore and experiment with different methods to create a diverse range of prints.

Simple and recycled materials, such as card, plastic and textured papers, will be used, alongside specialist papers and inks designed for intaglio printing. Students will have the chance to work with both black and coloured inks, as well as experiment with collage techniques to add depth and texture to their prints. Throughout the course, students will be able to create unique prints and also editions (multiples). Everyone will have the opportunity to work with the studio’s printing press, gaining hands-on experience with this specialist piece of equipment.

Suitable for all levels including beginners, no experience or art training is needed.

Returning students or others familiar with the techniques are welcome, and may work on their own projects or try more advanced techniques with guidance and advice from the tutor as needed.

All materials are provided. Students are invited to bring their own images and ideas but the tutor will also provide objects and images for inspiration.

Please wear old clothes as printing can be messy.

Costs: £120

Days: 5 Thursday evenings

Times: 18:00 - 21:00

About the courses at Phoenix Art Space

Phoenix Art Space's courses provide a mix of high quality workshops aimed at practicing, and aspiring artists and art lovers. They are suitable for anyone (including beginners unless otherwise stated) who wants to learn new skills from professional artists and would like to meet likeminded people in a supportive and creative environment. We normally provide all the basic materials unless stated in the course descriptions. You need to sign up in advance as some popular courses fill up very quickly.

All courses are aimed at adults (over 18) unless otherwise stated. Course fees are kept as low as possible to encourage everyone to participate in the arts, including those on low incomes but not eligible for benefits, such as many artists. Therefore we do not offer separate concessionary rates for members of the public. We are unable to offer discounted rates for other reasons, for instance if you are unable to attend all the sessions, unless the course has already started and has unfilled spaces.

We accept payments online by credit or debit card and PayPal. Offline payment options are only available when booking a ticket in person at the Phoenix Art Space front desk during gallery opening hours.

We regret we are unable to provide car or bicycle parking facilities (except for students with disabilities).

If you have any additional needs please let us know and we will endeavour to accommodate them. We have disabled access on the ground floor where the courses are held, including a ramp and toilet facilities. Please email chloe@phoenixbrighton.org for information.

Booking Terms and Conditions:

Refunds require 2 weeks notice prior to the start of the course and will involve the deduction of our costs such as transaction fees or bank charges. If less than less than 2 weeks notice is given prior to the course start date we regret that refunds or transfers to other courses are NOT possible.

Courses are aimed at over 18s.

If a course is cancelled we will endeavour to give as much notice as possible by sending participants an email. It is rare for us to cancel courses but it occasionally happens due to events beyond our control, in that case we refund the payment in full.

Please ensure you check your email before a class starts as we or the tutor may be in touch with instructions/advice.
