Online event

Open mic of poetry, storytelling, and any spoken word.

About this event

To register to perform in this month's open mic, you must also fill out the form for each month, which is here:

Please note that this step is essential to being considered for the (always oversubscribed!) open mic, and you must fill in a new one for each month for which you would like to be considered.

Allographic has three forms of live event – our open-hearted open mic with featured guests every last Sunday of the month; “Allographic presents...”, a loose series of events with bigger names from the spoken word scene, and a burgeoning set of workshops for aspirant poets, storytellers, and other writers and performers.

So, what’s Allographic Open Mic then? It’s a simple concept really - a lyrical invasion of a lovely bar; a stage, a microphone, a bunch of lovely people, and some words. Entry is free, but we take a donation (i.e. pay as you like). Doors are at 6:30pm and the gig kicks off at 7pm. The venue is fully accessible to wheelchair users.

Okay, so strike that - the open mic is still all those things, but it isn't in a bar, it's in your house. Yes, like everyone else, we're going virtual in these strange times, and you can join us online. Facebook event is here. If you would like to enter the open mic, please fill out the form.

So – come and show us what you’ve got: step up to the open mic or enjoy the talent on display (ideally both, of course!). Pretty much anything goes, as long as you respect the audience and the ethos of the evening!

Bring your poems, stories, dramatic monologues (or duologues!), improv, hip hop, and anything else that fits the bill of spoken word. And if you fancy learning something new that afternoon, try out the Allographic Virtual Write-In/ Workshop, 2-5pm.

No guest this month, so there's room for more chaos...

We’ll also be showing off (well, talking about and giving you links to) the rest of our pamphlets and other poetry collections, and telling you about the other lovely spoken word things we know of in the city and nearby (and by "nearby", we of course mean "virtually").

Entry is free but you will have an opportunity to pay what you think the event was worth afterwards (virtual hat will be passed around). Money raised goes towards our costs and to the In Other Words festival, to keep both sets of events as accessible as possible.
