The Centre for Science, Health, and Data Communications Research focuses on the urgent need for better science, health and data communication through ambitious cross-disciplinary collaborations. From reporting statistics, to tackling disinformation, from health and wellness interventions to more efficient communication around environmental and humanitarian disasters, our members respond to real world issues—often in real time.

“We’re saving rich white guys’ history?”: Women scientists, new and imagined pasts, and narratives of science on screen 

Speaker bio: Dr Amy C. Chambers is a senior lecturer in Film and Media Studies at Manchester Metropolitan University. She works in the fields of film history and science communication, and her research examines the intersection of science and entertainment media, women’s filmmaking, and science fiction. Her most recent publications include: ‘The Re(birth) of Pregnancy Horror in Alice Lowe’s Prevenge’ (2020), ‘Reading science: SF and the uses of literature’ (2020), and ‘Star Trek Discovers Women: Gender, Science, and Michael Burnham’ (2020). Amy is currently developing a project on Women-directed SF where she will watch/review every SF directed by a woman – follow the project on her website and via the podcast co-hosted by Dr Lyle Skains (BU).
