Rising through the ranks, she joined Northumbria Police in 2002 as a Chief Inspector and was later promoted to Assistant Chief Constable. In November 2016, she moved to Durham Constabulary, where she served as Chief Constable from June 2019. Most recently, she assumed the role of Chief Constable of Police Scotland in October 2023.
In addition to her leadership responsibilities, Jo chairs the National Chief Council's Digital Data and Technology Coordination Committee, driving innovation in the digital landscape of policing.
