An Evening with Jam and Justice
Event Information
About this Event
In 2016, Jam and Justice set out to test-and-learn how devolution might make Greater Manchester's decision-making more inclusive. An Action Research Collective formed with people from different walks of life, brought together to learn by doing about the process of co-production.
Together we have explored the democratic challenge--how can we include more voices in how we govern cities? The knowledge challenge--how do we bring together what we know to address difficult problems in our cities? And the justice challenge--how do we address spatial, social and environmental inequalities in our cities?
We co-initiated a series of learn-by-doing projects including an inquiry into Care at Home, focus groups with Councillors and communities, and workshops with the VCSE sector and Commissioners exploring procurement and social value.
Join us as we publish conclusions based on our journey together, making collective sense of our 10 projects and their outcomes including: a photovoice exhibition revealing the value of Everyday Politics; immersive energy walks probing the history (and future) of Manchester's energy supply; a prototype map of transformative economic actors in the Greater Manchester city-region and more....
This event offers the chance to hear different perspectives on what really works (and doesn’t work) when co-producing transformative research, and an opportunity to connect with others with an interest in justice, participation, and making devolution matter in our city-region and beyond.
In National Co-Production Week 2019, join us to celebrate the culmination of three years of collaborative research in Greater Manchester.

Jam and Justice is a research project funded by the ESRC and Mistra Urban Futures. Our Action Research Collective came together in 2016 to "learn by doing" about co-production and urban governance. Join us to find out what we have been up to and what this means for governing cities differently.
