(The talk will be followed by a drinks reception in our historic library, where a paid bar will be available.)
Join BBC Studios NHU’s Creative Director and Executive Producer Mike Gunton as he shares the secrets of making compelling and engaging natural history television series. How to do you translate complex scientific information into stories that will grip, fascinate, and entertain an audience? How do you give viewers the most intense experience of life in the wild to help them relate to the animal (and plant) characters on screen and ultimately care more about our natural world.
In this entertaining and insightful talk, Mike will reveal the ingredients that make up the ‘secret sauce’ of successful shows such as Planet Earth, The Green Planet, Dynasties and Prehistoric Planet, including what it’s like working with Sir David Attenborough. With behind-the-scenes clips and stories from the field, you will learn just what it takes to make an award-winning natural history show.
Michael Gunton is the Creative Director of Factual and The Natural History Unit for BBC Studios.
