The Aberdeen and District Beekeepers' Association (ADBKA) is offering a six week Introduction to Beekeeping course. It is open to all and principally intended for those who might be interested in taking up beekeeping and would like to know more about the craft. The course will also benefit those who firmly intend to get bees in 2020 or perhaps have already had bees for a short time.

The course comprises:

• Six 90 minute lectures on honey bees and beekeeping

1. The Life of the Honeybee
2. The Apiary and the Hive
3. Equipment, Bees and Getting Started
4. Products of the Hive
5. Help! There is something wrong with my bees
6. The Beekeeping Year

• A visit to the ADBKA apiary to experience handling live bees, view equipment and to make up a hive frame. Duration about two hours.

A participation certificate will be issued and lecture material will be made available.

When:

Lectures: Every Tuesday evening, 7-9 pm, for six weeks commencing 25th February 2020

Apiary Visit: Weekend of 25/26th April 2020. Some prior choice of day and time will be available.

Lectures: Lecture Theatre MR051, ground floor, MacRobert Building, University of Aberdeen (corner of King St and St Machar Drive)

Apiary Visit: ADBKA Apiary, Crathes, Banchory
