Summary:

This webinar is an opportunity for HPMA members to gain a greater understanding of the service and function that the Practitioner Performance Advice (PPA) provide to healthcare organisations to effectively manage and resolve concerns raised about the practice of individual doctors, dentists and pharmacists.

Covering:

· Overview of the service the PPA provides

· When the PPA should be used, and by whom

· The extent of PPA involvement in MHPS cases, and the type of advice they provide

· The implications of proceeding to MHPS without PPA input

· An overview of the Behavioural Assessment process and when this should be used


Objectives

By the end of this event you will be able to/have a:

· Have an understanding of when the PPA should be used

· Have an understanding of the Behavioural Process

· Understand the implications of not engaging with the PPA

William Beaumont

William joined the NHS in the late 1980’s in response to an NHS Yorkshire Region advert asking for volunteers to be generalist (part-time/unpaid) members on DHA’s. He was subsequently appointed to Scunthorpe DHA. After the introduction of NHS Secondary Care Trusts, for duration of the 1990’s he served as the Chairman of a Community and Mental Health Trust. William then had a 2 year stint working as a management consultant for a Yorkshire based health consultancy and as an adviser to the UK Department of Trade and Industry.


He joined the National Clinical Assessment Authority (now the Practitioner Performance Advice service-PPA)) at its inception in 2002, and after 23 years is PPA’s link Adviser for Yorkshire and Humber.
