An introduction to screenwriting will cover what differentiates the craft of screenwriting to the other forms of writing for performance or writing for the printed page. Led by Lucky Azad, we will experiment with the formation and depiction of character, creating a world and sculpting a story together using well established story structures. We will discuss what makes for engaging dramatic conflict. We will play with dialogue, the varieties of voice and what conversations for performance should have. We will play with genre and tone- what tropes create a genre and how to play with these rules. We will look at themes and motifs and how to thread visual representations of underlying ideas into your story. We will open up a world of imagination, come ready with your pen and pad or laptops – whichever you are most comfortable with!

Writing Ability: Suitable for all writing abilities.

What to bring: Notepad and pen/pencil or laptop – whatever you are most comfortable with.
