Event description
Join Jess Dixon for a crash-course on self-editing where she'll be helping prose writers in any genre improve their own work.

About this Event

"Writing is rewriting," as the saying goes. Knowing how to self-edit your work before bringing in the professionals is essential.

In this 2-hour course with Jess Dixon, you'll cover the core principles of effective editing, explore different approaches to the redrafting process, and take part in some practise exercises on your current work in progress.

Jess will be on hand throughout the session to make sure that you understand specific elements of the editing process so that you can polish up your manuscript ready for the next stage.

Note: Please bring along a piece of prose writing (fiction, non-fiction or academic text) that you're currently working on.

Throughout this 2-hour session, you will...

  • Explore self-editing and why it is important.
  • Discover different approaches to the editing process and work out which ones work best for you.
  • Consider some of the most important things to watch out for when editing your own work.
  • Understand when is the right time to bring in a professional editor.
