Event Details

The aim of this popular half day course is to provide teachers and health professionals with an understanding of sensory processing disorder and the impact that it has upon children and adults with multi-sensory impairment.

The main focus of this course will be to give participants the ability to identify sensory behaviours, and how to support the children / adults within their setting with appropriate sensory strategies.  There will be both practical and theoretical elements to the training and lots of fun!


  • To develop an understanding of sensory integration and MSI
  • Understand the terms ‘sensory integration’ and ‘sensory processing disorder’
  • Describe the functions of the main sensory systems and how and when they develop
  • Recognise different types of behaviour arising from of sensory processing disorder
  • Understand how sensory processing disorder impacts on learning and behaviour
  • Develop an understanding of the problems a child with sensory processing disorder encounters
  • Develop and implement strategies and programmes to assist a child in school, home and other settings

  • What is Sensory integration?
  • How is it important in learning?
  • The sensory system and how and when they develop, including the impact of MSI
  • Types of sensory processing disorders
  • Sensory diets – what are they and why
  • Sensory circuits – what are they and why

Course time

1.00pm - 4.00pm

Course duration: half-day, refreshments provided, but not lunch.

Course fees: £55

Terms and conditions

  1. Cancellation: Fees for non attendance are non-refundable. If your place is cancelled up to 48-hours before the course then 50 per cent of the course fees will be refundable. Fees for places that are cancelled with less than 48-hours notice are non-refundable.
  2. Each individual case will be taken into account and it may be possible to transfer fees to a future course / alternative course
  3. If the course is cancelled by Sense due to unforeseen circumstances, a future booking will be offered
