About this event

  • 2 hours

Join us for a trip to the Wildmoor Heath BBOWT Nature Reserve: a precious remnant of rare and fragile lowland heath. It is situated on a slope and offers visitors a wonderful range of habitats and views, from wet and dry lowland heath and valley bog, to mature pine and broadleaved woodland. It supports a variety of less common plants and animals including many heathland and bog specialists.

We will take a gentle stroll across the heath and boardwalks searching for one of the most restricted range butterflies in the UTB area. We should also see a wide variety of other wildlife. Target species: Silver-studded Blue and other butterflies of heathland and the wider countryside.

Accessibility & risks: mainly firm, gently sloping, sandy paths; some boggy peat; rough underfoot in places, can be muddy; gates, stiles and boardwalks. Please check for ticks after the walk and let the leader know if you have picked up any ticks. (Tick advice)
