The membership of the Government Analysis Function is a wide and diverse community of people, it includes:actuarieseconomistsgeographersoperational researcherssocial researchersstatisticians and data scientistsanalysts within the Government Digital and Data professionanyone else working in analysis in governmentThe Government Analysis Function fits into the Civil Service’s functional model. Each analytical profession provides guidance on the expectations of a person in order to be recognised as a member of that profession.The function brings together all members of the analytical professions as well as anyone or any team that produces analysis, evidence and research to support decision making in government.The function does not remove the professional identities of each individual profession. It brings them together to be greater than the sum of its parts and to make efficiencies.The government profession groups within the Government Analysis Function include:Government Digital and Data (DDaT) professionGovernment Actuary’s Department (GAD)Government Economic Service (GES)Government Geography ProfessionGovernment Operational Research Service (GORS)Government Social Research (GSR)Government Statistician Group (GSG)

The Analysis Function Strategy and Delivery Division would like to invite you to help shape the future of the Analysis Function.

Would you like to take part in a workshop exploring your expectations for the Analysis Function and what you think the function should do for analysts and aspiring analysts? We are looking to gather feedback from across the analytical community to consider the work of the function and our shared aims, and your views are extremely important to us.The Analysis Function strategy outlines what your function can offer you; the team are currently looking for colleagues across the function to get involved to ensure that the refreshed strategy is as relatable as possible and to understand what members want from the analysis function.This could be anything from sharing expert advice or understanding training and development needs. Learning is just one of the elements the team will be focussing on and we’d love to know what you think – as an analyst or aspiring analyst, what do you want from our learning offer, how can we share best practice and what additional services can we offer?
