"Your life is a series of labels and stereotypes.

Roles we are given at birth, inherited social identities and the lottery of where you grow up.

The one thing we have some control over is autonomous choice. To be who we want to be. To change our future selves and become all of this, and none of this, and everything in between.

The young participants work in this exhibition is an exploration of what it means to be their own true selves; the good, the bad, the ugly and everything in between.

Through the lens of photography, creative writing and related mediums they have embarked on a journey of discovery of the self and others. We now invited you to delve in and begin your own exploration alongside them."

About the Artists:

And Everything In Between is an exhibition of work made by young people between the ages of 16-25. All the exhibiting artists are participants of the DSLR (Develop Skills, Learn and Reflect, 16-25) workshops developed, hosted and run by the charity In Focus Education & Development, between September 2024 and April 2025.

These free-to-attend, open workshops are a space for young people to learn new skills, connect with others, explore their creativity and gain knowledge and experience through engaging in arts-based activities. Participants had fun with a range of creative skills including photography, lens-based media, creative writing, collage, painting, animation, mixed media and more.

About In Focus Education & Development:

We use our shared passion and working knowledge of photography and visual arts to encourage, teach and empower young people and communities. Young people are at the centre of all the work we do, including ensuring our workshops are tailored to their interests, hobbies, and potential career paths. By supporting young people to make informed choices we have seen them positively reengage in their learning experience and grow in confidence. This creates a safe and inclusive learning space enabling their voice to be heard. Having the autonomy to make decisions for themselves, and make better life choices, nurtures good mental health and wellbeing.
