Anglo Sikh Virtual Museum Launch

The Sikh Museum Initiative (SMI) is the premier organisation in the UK which uncovers Sikh relics and artefacts. We undertake lectures, exhibitions and extensive fieldwork to bring out the rich history between the Sikhs and the British. We are unique in preserving heritage through 3d modelling, augmented reality and other new technologies.

Panel discussion with Dr Opinderjit Takhar (Centre of Sikh and Punjabi Studies), Susan Stronge (Victoria and Albert Museum) and Gurinder Singh Mann (Sikh Museum Initiative). 
As part of the Anglo Sikh Wars project, in 2016/2017 we showcased for the first time 3d technologies through 3d modelling, virtual reality and augmented reality. We have toured the UK and overseas with our 3d touchscreen monitor where thousands of people have viewed Sikh objects in 3d and as a result, we have received international acclaim for our work.
What is the project?
Since 2016, The Sikh Museum Initiative has been modelling Sikh relics and artefacts – some of these will now be launched on a new website and can be viewed through virtual reality headsets. Some objects are from the Sikh Empire and link the Court of Maharajah Ranjit Singh through to the suffragette Sophia Duleep Singh hence highlighting the relationship between Sikh and British communities. We will be adding new objects throughout the year, culminating in a full interactive 3d Sikh online museum.

We look forward to seeing you on the day where we will have a number of guest speakers discussing the importance of Sikh history and heritage. 
Refreshments will be served. Parking is limited at the New Walk Museum however there is off-street parking.
