Chinese Brush Painting – the Horse with Anne Allan
This workshop is for all who have an interest in Chinese Brush Painting, both beginners and those with some experience.
About the event
After quickly explaining the traditional materials, Anne will demonstrate how to paint a horse using large brushes and flowing brushstrokes.
In the Chinese Zodiac, the period 17 February 2026 to 5 February 2027 is the Year of the Fire Horse. Certain characteristics of a horse are supposed to be typical of or are associated with either a year of the horse and its events, or in regard to the personality of someone born in such a year – ie 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014 and 2026. The fire horse symbolises energy, passion and bold action. So it is appropriate to paint a horse in 2026, which we will paint in different poses.
You will be supplied with reference photographs and Anne will take you step by step through the techniques ensuring that everyone will complete the compositions.
Anne will give personal one-to-one assistance throughout the day.
You will work on xuan paper and on a shikishi board with Chinese painting colours and ink, using Chinese brushes
