About the lecture

The subject of Anne’s lecture will be: Queen Victoria, the first global female leader; to see Anne talk about this in more detail, click here.

Anne's lecture will show us another side of Queen Victoria that has not previously been explored; the real-world leadership aspects of her life and the 21st Century leadership challenges that she faced, in many ways not very different from those facing the leaders of today. Anne will also explore the effectiveness of the coaching and mentoring that Queen Victoria received during some of the critical periods of her life and reign.

Anne will share her thinking on what she views as the three big challenges that face us all in the next 20 years and which she has arrived at following three years of rigorous research on Queen Victoria:-

  1. the need to change how we think of women, and men, as leaders;
  2. the need for genuinely serious research into the whole field of coaching - focusing on theory, practice and results;
  3. how we need to move much faster to serve and involve the next generation and embrace their new perspectives

Who’s to blame? When senior leaders fail, we habitually point the finger – but in the wrong direction. Anne will give a robust challenge to this habit, with evidence from core current psychology, to flip how we usually see things – leaders, teams, performance – on its head.

Anne will bring together her psychology training, 25 years of leadership coaching and training and ongoing involvement with leadership coaches in the Meyler Campbell community to deliver a stimulating and thought-provoking lecture. A former diplomat and international banker; psychologist and writer; and Founder of Meyler Campbell, Anne believes that traditional mentoring / training / consulting puts in content while coaching pulls out the capacity people have within ...and that we all need both. In her view, knowledge and skill are essential, but so too are the energy, inspiration and motivation that can only come from within. Great organisational coaching fluently and pertinently blends both.
