Project Art Works collaborates with people with complex support needs, families and circles of support. Our practice intersects art and care, responding to neurodivergence, its gifts and impacts. Challenging paradigms of inclusion, it spans direct practical and holistic support, film, events, projects and exhibitions.Our studios provide the conditions for a broad range of autonomous and collaborative practices with neurodivergent artists, who take part on their own terms. Alongside the studios, the Support Collective brings together people who care for people with complex support needs where we share our experience and protect our rights through training, resources and advocacy.Human connection and what it reveals about identity and how we view each other are explored within our work. Our practice continues to respond to the functional and ethical structures of diligence and care, respecting self-determination and privacy whilst working towards greater visibility and understanding of neurodiversity in culture.Project Art Works is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation. Session 2: Monday 30th May 2022, 11am-1pmPerspectives and case studies from providers and other services in Sussex and beyond.Another Way Home explores housing and accommodation opportunities for people with complex support needs (such as learning disabilities, complex needs and autism). We will draw upon local and national models that are run by families and carers themselves, ways to own your own home, use personal budgets, secure enhanced housing benefit and find local providers to get the home that’s right for you.Across online events, the summit features talks from local people who have developed models of independent and supported living from the ground up and representatives from initiatives such as Shared Lives and HOLD (Home Ownership for People with Long-term Disabilities).The Provider Approach presentation and panel discussionBringing together housing associations, providers and initiatives to share how they are supporting a move away from residential care settings to community-based supported living which offers choice, control and personalisation.Speakers confirmed so far:Julie Smith, Gettalife co-director talk about how they set-up 20 years ago in Coventry with the aim of supporting people to have their own home and a team of support who know them well.David Abbey, My Safe Home, share how owning your own home is possible for a person with a long-term disability using the HOLD scheme via Shared Ownership: Home ownership for people with long-term disabilities (HOLD)Millie Rowland, Shared Lives carer talk about how she became a Shared Lives carer and what care in the community looks like for her.For more information about these events please contact sarahdunne@projectartworks.org.Image: Albert Geere, Untitled, 2010, 51cm x 76cm
