Sidmouth Community Food ForestSidford, England

Overview

Join us for a hands-on Apple Pruning Workshop and learn how to keep your trees happy and fruitful!

Apple & Pear Pruning Workshop

Have you ever read a guide to Pruning or studied some diagrams, but later, outside, faced with your tree, your mind goes blank? It looks nothing like the diagram? Here at Sidford Community Food Forest we think we may have the solution..

A hands-on workshop, including a practical session in our young community orchard (weather permitting). After an informative talk covering the core principles of Formative Pruning of Apples & Pears, we'll have some practical demos and activities to bed down that knowledge. Gather 'round some actual trees, with a friendly adept and we'll discuss how the tree is growing, how we'd ideally like it to grow and how best to encourage that outcome. The long term productivity of our community orchard being the goal.

Our tutor is pomologist (apple expert) and cider maker, Crispin Adams. Crispin's cider is on sale in places such as Darts Farm, The Real Cider Shop and other speciality outlets. Crispin is well known for his work on saving heritage varieties, community orchard projects and his low-intervention approach to cider making.
