About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

This workshop will introduce you to applique - the art of sewing fabric on top of a base fabric to create designs, add texture and interest to textile art.

We will explore both raw edge applique and closed edge applique before creating your own piece of applique artwork. Applique is ideal for using up small snippets of fabric, making it a great technique for those who like to choose more sustainable textile methods.

Applique can be used on bags, clothes, cushions as well as to create wall art to be framed or greetings cards.

We will be focussing on hand applique, although methods to use with a sewing machine will be explained.

Each workshop participant will receive a beautifully curated gift box so that the creativity can continue after the workshop finishes.

All materials are included, however if you would like to bring a garment to add your applique to please feel free. The workshop is suitable for all levels of embroidery experience from the beginner to the more accomplished embroiderer alike.

The workshop is held at The Weigh To Shop, Durham from 2 -5pm. The shop will be closed to the public for the duration of the workshop. You are welcome to browse, stock up on products and purchase refreshments during the workshop.

I am a textile artist, tutor and community artist.  I hold qualifications in both textile arts and education.  I love teaching, passing on skills and knowledge in a supportive and creative environment.  In my workshops students are encouraged to create artwork that is unique to them, rather than a replica of my work.  I always have sample works available to inspire and to learn from.
