This Masterclass will be exploring a range of different research methodologies of approaching media infrastructures

This Masterclass will be exploring a range of different research methodologies of approaching media infrastructures from textual analysis and ethnographic fieldwork to media archaeology and media geology. Along the way we will ask questions about researching the political economy and material specificities of particular media infrastructures like optical fiber cables, cell antennas, and data centers. The Master class will include small group deliberations and activities regarding making research plans to study the environmental impact of media infrastructures within socio-cultural contexts. Rahul Mukherjee is Dick Wolf Associate Professor of Television and New Media, and Director of the Cinema and Media Studies program at the University of Pennsylvania. His research on environmental media and mobile phone cultures has been published in his monograph Radiant Infrastructures: Media, Environment, and Cultures of Uncertainty (Duke University Press, 2020) and in journals like Media, Culture &amp; Society. He serves on the advisory board of Center for Advanced Research in Global Communication.
