FACT Liverpool is the UK's leading media arts centre, based in Liverpool.Our award-winning FACT building houses three galleries, a café, bar and four cinema screens, run byPicturehouseand showing the best in independent and mainstream film. FACT also runs its own film programmes, focusing on classic and art house.Since the organisation was founded in 1988, we have commissioned and presented over 250 new media and digital artworks from artists including Pipilotti Rist, Nam June Paik, Bill Viola, Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Isaac Julien.Our Engagement and Learning programmes offer a range of opportunities for people to get involved with creative technology and digital projects, and our Research team works with partners across the creative industries, health, high education and arts sectors to develop innovative projects.

Larissa Sansour and Søren Lind present a live performance of their new Arabic-language opera, As If No Misfortune Had Occurred in the Night.

The Tung Auditorium, Yoko Ono Lennon Centre

Performed for an audience for the first time by Palestinian soprano Nour Darwish, you are invited to immerse yourself in an unforgettable operatic experience at the brand new state-of-the-art Tung Auditorium at the University of Liverpool's Yoko Ono Lennon Centre. Nour Darwish will sing live on stage against the backdrop of Larissa and Søren’s film which has been specially recomposed for this unique event. Presented as a single aria, the audiovisual work poetically laments a century of Palestinian trauma, starting with the cataclysm of World War I. Nour Darwish’s solo performance will envelop you as it brings the film to life, resonating throughout the remarkable acoustic performance space. The performance will be preceded by a screening of In Vitro, a 2-channel Arabic-language sci-fi short filmed in black and white. It is set in the aftermath of an eco-disaster. The performance will be followed by a Q&A with the artists, hosted by Dr Nicola Triscott, Chief Executive/Director at FACT Liverpool.

Larissa and Søren's new commission, <a href="https://www.fact.co.uk/artwork/as-if-no-misfortune-had-occurred-in-the-night-2022" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">As If No Misfortune Had Occurred in the Night</a> (2022), has received critical acclaim whilst on display at FACT as part of the current exhibition, <a href="https://www.fact.co.uk/event/let-the-song-hold-us" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Let the Song Hold Us</a>. As If No Misfortune Had Occurred in the Night (2022) is commissioned by FACT Liverpool and co-produced with Bildmuseet at the University of Umeå.
