Art at Bethlem

The Bethlem Gallery, established 1997, is situated on the grounds of The Bethlem Royal Hospital.Managed by a small, artist-led team, the gallery provides a professional space for high-quality artwork and fosters a supportive artist-focused environment.Exhibitions and events are programmed throughout the year presenting a wide range of mediums and contemporary practice. The gallery is an ideal platform for experimentation, collaboration and skills exchange. Collectively we strive to develop the careers, experience and expertise of the gallery artists by creating opportunities for professional development. Our successful artist-in-residence projects also work with patients and staff on site to improve people’s experience of the hospital environment.The Bethlem Gallery programme includes collaborations withBethlem Museum of the Mind, artists-in-residence, interdisciplinary research and partnerships with arts organisations across the UK and beyond. We campaign for access to the arts in healthcare environments and engage audiences in learning and debate on the subject of mental health and artistic practice.The gallery is free and open to all. Bethlem Gallery

Head to Bethlem Gallery and Museum of the Mind in Beckenham to explore the site of this world-famous hospital through historical and contemporary artistic perspectives. This is a collaboration between Bethlem Gallery and Wellcome Collection in celebration of our <A HREF="http://bethlemgallery.com/event/reclaiming-asylum/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Reclaiming Asylum</A> exhibition and <A HREF="https://wellcomecollection.org/bedlam" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Wellcome’s Bedlam exhibition</A>.
This is a paid event, with tea and cake included.

<H3>Schedule for the event:</H3>

10am - 11am - Arrive and register. Both the gallery and museum exhibitions will be open to see before the talk starts
</LI>
<LI>
11am - 12:30pm - Art at Bethlem talk with presentations by all the invited speakers before time for questions and discussion.
</LI>
<LI>
12:30pm - 1:15pm - Tea, coffee and cake will be served (Included in the price of your ticket)
</LI>
<LI>
1:15pm-2:15pm - Sue from the Bethlem Wood Library will lead a walk around the hospital grounds. If you would like to join her then please do bring appropriate clothing, footwear and umbrellas, as the walk will lead us across grass and wooded areas.

</UL>
 
Both the gallery and museum are open till 5pm that day with a small café space on-site serving hot drinks, cake and a selection of sandwiches and salads.
