The light weight and high strength of composite materials such as Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastics (CFRP) means that they are finding more and more applications, from cars, to aircraft and even bridges. Bristol has played an important part in the history of these materials, and also hosts a world-leading research group at the University, and the National Composites Centre. Following a panel discussion on the future of composites and their impact on our material world, designer Tom Metcalfe will present the work of his recent micro-residency that explores ideas of craftsmanship, sustainability and the future design of our material world. This residency was supported by Bristol 800, the University of Bristol’s Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science, the National Composites Centre and Watershed.
