Art workshops - Create a landscape inspired clay vase or vessel
Clay slab workshop, inspired by the landscapes & elements of the North West Highlands
Resident artist, Martina Macleod, from Mudness Ceramics will guide you through a slab building session to create a vase or vessel, with a unique design inspired by the landscapes and elements of the North West Highlands. The session will include working on the clay surface and imprinting patterns to create a unique design of your choosing. The finished piece will then be fired for you after drying.
A bit more about Martina:
“Originally from Austria, I moved to Scotland over 20 years ago. I fell in love with the North and the rugged landscape continues to inspire my work every day. I enjoy experimenting with various techniques, styles and colours to create a range of both functional and decorative pieces. Although I am usually kept very busy in the workshop, I try to make sure a day doesn’t go past where I don’t get outside for a walk along the beach. My pottery and shop ‘Mudness’ is situated at Balnakeil Craft Village just outside Durness”.
There will be two sessions, from 10am to 12.30pm and then from 1.30pm to 4pm. Both sessions are open to all, free to attend but places are limited, so please book your place. All materials are included. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.
This workshop is one of a series being delivered across the North West Highlands Geopark and its Gateway areas. They are part of the Artist in Residence Project from the Access, Connect and Take Part Programme, working with artists resident in the area to engage communities with the North West Highlands landscape, natural and cultural heritage through the creative process. Funded by the North & West Sutherland Trust (Durness).
