The Science Innovation Union is an entrepreneurs-led not-for-profit organization with over 6,500 members across London, Cambridge, Oxford, Frankfurt, Berlin and Katowice. Our core focus is to provide a first of its kind globally interconnected communication, networking and training platform between academia, industry, and society. We want to inspire innovation and encourage the translation of science into real-world solutions. This is supported by four arms: Events & Networking, Consulting, Education, and Editorials. In combination, these aim to engage people from across a variety of different disciplines, industries, fields and across both the private and public sector interested in life sciences and serve to inspire and support the translation of science and introduce a new, collaborative trend into the classic academic culture in activities at the interface of business, science and entrepreneurship.

Join us in exploring the real-world applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in business intelligence, marine research, quantum computing systems and blockchain.In the first of our two AI-themed live online events, we invite four guest speakers working at the forefront of AI to share their exciting work.Learn about the vast applications of AI, the underlying innovative technologies and gain valuable insights on how you can build successful careers in this arena.Be inspired by their fascinating stories ranging from founding the company, product development, conducting research studies and seeking partnerships for the business. Our free-for-all event will include a presentation by our guest speakers followed by a Q&amp;A session which will be led by SIU hosts.Please register via EventBrite to reserve a spot. All registered attendees will receive zoom joining details by email in advance of the webinar.Speaker information:Daniel James - Chief Product Officer at AMPLYFIDaniel is responsible for the products built for AMPLYFI’s customers. He has been part of the AMPLYFI team since 2016 during which time he has held various roles across the engineering and business teams. Prior to joining AMPLYFI, Daniel led the deployment of numerous data products at University College London. Daniel holds degrees in Biochemistry and Bioinformatics from UCL and Cardiff University, previously specialising in the use of machine learning models to predict protein structures.AMPLYFI was created in 2015 by Chris Ganje and Ian Jones after they worked together at BP on global strategic projects. They experienced first-hand the difficulties in obtaining objective insight from the same old data and expert opinions that everyone else was using. They decided AI, the internet and unstructured data held the key, so they set about building a team of pioneering technologists, academics and sector experts to make their vision a reality. Today, AMPLYFI has grown to over 50 people, expanded through acquisition in the US and has attracted blue-chip customers in countries all around the world. AMPLYFI is the new frontier of business intelligence.Enrico Anderlini – Senior Research Fellow at UCL Marine Research Group Enrico is a senior research fellow in the Marine Research Group at University College London. His research work focuses on intelligent fault-tolerant control of maritime systems, including Marine Autonomous Systems (MAS) and Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) converters. He is currently principal investigator of a project designing data-driven anomaly detection and fault diagnostics systems for MAS.Prior to joining UCL, Enrico completed an engineering doctorate in the machine learning control of wave energy converters at the Industrial Doctoral Training Centre for ORE (Universities of Edinburgh, Exeter &amp; Strathclyde) under the sponsorship of Wave Energy Scotland.Marco Fernandez – CEO &amp; Founder at Quantum Sense Marco graduated in astrophysics, mathematics, linguistics and foundations of computer science from Oxford and Cambridge University. His MSc thesis was on the pioneering field of quantum linguistics. The success of machine learning thanks to faster computer chips and advances in research as well as the construction of first quantum computers a few years ago led him to the great opportunity of starting a tech company in the fields of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and (Quantum) Machine Learning. He is passionate about the interplay of language, science, technology and AI and especially their impact on our future. Andreas Harpas – Growth Manager at Pundi XAndreas Harpas is the Growth Manager at Pundi X. He has a BSc in Human Biology and also pursuing an MSc in Bio-Business (Birkbeck University of London). He is responsible for partner and community relations for Pundi X. His role is to initiate potential partnerships for executive and business development teams.Based in Singapore, Pundi X was founded in 2017 with the aim of harnessing the power of blockchain technology to make a more secure and inclusive world. As of this writing, the company is responsible for developing Function X Blockchain and XPOS, a point-of-sale smart device that allows brick-and-mortar stores to transact on the blockchain. The company currently has offices in Jakarta, São Paulo, Seoul, Shenzhen, Taipei, and Tokyo.
