Since 2019 Glasgow Life has been running its Artists in Communities programme of co-created opportunities for artists and communities across the city. Glasgow-based artists participate with local communities to create activities and artworks in response to their aspirations. Commissioned artists engage with the local community and help them to experience the life-enhancing benefits of creativity in place. From diverse artistic disciplines – music, storytelling, visual arts, performance, film, textiles and craft – the initiative and its participants create space and provide creative support for residents to tell their own stories, provide opportunities for creative expression and skill development, and bring communities together.
This place-based programme has developed over the last 5 years building a huge wealth of knowledge, learning and creative experiences across the city.
On 14 May we will host a symposium to explore some of the learning from using socially engaged practice and how we can best support artists and communities in this area. Programmed in partnership with Dr Anthony Schrag from Queen Margaret University, it is aimed at artists, community-based organisations, policy makers and funders.
The event is free.
Registration from 09.30 to begin at 10.00.
