Join a free creative workshop exploring looped animation and free software.
We’re going to be exploring a very stripped down approach to digital moving image art by using pixel art software Aseprite, and making short looped animations to tell a story through just a few frames of animated gif.
Uma introduces practice and interest in ambient animations using a limited workflow.
We then get orientated with Aseprite, showing the simple interface and how the layers and frames work.
We then show how to shoot a short section of video and import into aseprite to use a reference for crude rotoscoping.
Artists are then supported to make their individual looping animations.
To bring:
laptop and phone.
an external mouse.
a drawing tablet (such as wacom) if you have one, though this is not essential.
About the artist/facilitator , Uma Breakdown
I’m Uma, an artist, writer, and award winning game designer interested in animals, horror, and structures which support/inhibit solidarity. Everything I make is about some combination of love, grief, hallucination, and an excess of joy.
My practice is orientated around images and text, manifesting as animation, drawing, games, and publishing. Additionally, with my collaborator Belladonna Paloma I make video games about the divine and occult providence of transfemme existence"
