ASPIRES 2 Report Launch

The first ASPIRES study tracked the development of young people's science and career aspirations from age 10-14 (from 2009-2013). ASPIRES 2 is continuing to track young people until age 19, to understand the changing influences of the family, school, careers education and social identities and inequalities on young people's science and career aspirations.Currently in the third phase of research, ASPIRES 3 will track young peolpe until age 23 to cover the span of ages 10 to 23 over this 13 year longitudinal study.We are based at UCL Institute of Education in the Education, Practice and Society department. You are warmly invited to attend the launch of the ASPIRES 2 report and celebrate the findings and achievement of the second phase of the project.This report will build on findings first reported in the first <a href="http://bit.ly/ASPIRES-Report" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ASPIRES report</a>, as we look forward to the next, third, phase of ASPIRES (ASPIRES 3).Intended Programme:17.00 - 17.30 : Arrival17.30 - 18.30: Report Launch by Professor Louise Archer and Dr Julie Moote18.30 - 19.30 : Drinks Reception<a href="http://www.ucl.ac.uk/ioe-aspires" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ASPIRES 2</a> was a large, national mixed methods project which investigated young people’s science and career aspirations from ages 14 to 19. The study extended previous research, conducted with the same cohort of young people, who took part in the first ASPIRES project at ages 10 to 14. ASPIRES 2 provides an authoritative and valuable source of evidence as to how young people view science (and STEM), how these views change over time and offering insights into key factors that influence their views and aspirations. In particular, it provides fresh insights into factors shaping young people’s STEM participation and why existing participation patterns are so resistant to change.
