About this session

This session provides a useful background understanding of the area including Attachment Theory, Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and explores the impact these can have on development and learning.

We will look at evidence-based approaches that can help children and young people who have experienced these types of challenges improve their educational attainment and behaviour.

Session participants will be signposted to various resources that will support their work.


Useful for those working with or caring for:

Children and young people who are part of the care system or who have been part of the care system previously

Children and yound people who are adopted and experienced difficulties

Children and young people who have experienced trauma and/or adverse childhood events

Children who seem to be consistently under-achieving and/or displaying cognitive delay, and also often displaying some challenging/distressed behaviours

Children and yound people that have been excluded or at risk of exclusion.

Denise Snook

Denise is an experinced trainer specialising in supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. She has taught in both mainstream schools and special schools and held management, advisory and leadership roles. Denise now works as a consultant with parents, carers and professionals. Her training sessions reflect her broad and detailed knowledge in SEND and SEMH, and course participants will appreciate her responsive, compassionate and realistic support.
