Welcome to this online event where Jayne Lowe (Attendance Adviser and Behaviour Adviser to the DfE) will be outlining the role of the DSL in supporting attendance and implementation of the DfE statutory guidance. Jayne works across all phases and sectors of education and with local authorities, with a remit to raise whole school attendance. Jayne also has an extensive safeguarding portfolio as independent safeguarding adviser to more than 100 schools and as Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel Member for the DfE.
The Working Together to Improve School Attendance guidance became statutory August 2024. All schools, trusts, governing bodies, and local authorities must have regard to it as part of their efforts to maintain high levels of school attendance. The guidance refers to ‘making attendance everyone’s business’ and highlights the relationship between absence and safeguarding.
This online webinar builds on the Working Together to Improve School Attendance series which Jayne created to support implementation when the guidance launched. The webinar is dedicated to exploring the role of the DSL in supporting attendance and will cover the following elements.
· Systems and procedures
· Understanding and using the data
· Collaboration with agencies
· Voice of the child
The session will cater for Designated Safeguarding Leaders from all phases and sectors.
