Audio Descriptive Talk and Tea: Pharmacy Jars

Audio Descriptive Talk and Tea: Pharmacy Jars

Museum of the Order of St JohnLondon, England
Wednesday, Apr 1 from 2 pm to 2:30 pm GMT+1
Overview

Join us for a series of descriptive talks and object handling exploring key objects in the collection.

These free events last approximately 45 minutes and are for blind and partially-sighted visitors and their companions. Tea and biscuits provided.

The Knights of the Order of St John have always been dedicated to caring for the sick, by founding hospitals to helping with diet to providing medicine. Instead of popping a paracetamol like we do today, apothecaries of the past mixed required medicines of herbs and organic material and stored them in impressive ceramic jars. Practical (as well as pretty), join us for this audio-descriptive talk to learn more and handle one of the ceramic jars.

This is a free ticketed event and spaces are limited to ensure everyone gets an opportunity to handle the objects.

This event takes place in the Museum Galleries which have step-free access throughout. For more information on getting to the Museum, booking a ticket or to find out about facilities, please visit the Museum’s website or call on 020 7324 4005. Lines are monitored Wednesday – Saturday 9:30am – 5pm. Alternatively, you can email museum@sja.org.uk

If you book and your plans change, please drop the gallery a line so that they can release your tickets. Many thanks!

Image Description: three phramacy jars standing in front of a white background. The first jar features florals in blue and green and a snake wrapped around a palm tree. The second jar is in pale, subtle colours and shows a wooden boat with two large sails on a stormy looking sea. The third jar again features florals, but these are blue and yellow and white and this jar has a handle.
