Autumn Conservation Weekend

Hazel Hill Wood is a beautiful, secluded 70-acre wood and sustainable retreat and education centre, seven miles from Salisbury, offering unique scope for people to deepen their connection with nature and learn about living renewably.Our eventsprogrammeincludes retreats, conservation activities and the wood is available for hire and group bookings. Thefacilitiesinclude an indoor group room and large kitchen, heated bedrooms and sleeping lofts, good showers, compost loos, along with beautiful outside spaces, camping area and hot tub.  We can offer a range ofteaching inputsand conservation projects on programmes for external clients.

Join us for an autumnal weekend of woodland conversation and human restoration.

*Ticket sales end 6pm Wednesday 29th Sep*This weekend combines the satisfaction of outdoor physical activity with the restorative effect of relaxing in a woodland environment. Over two days and two nights at Hazel Hill you will get the chance to try your hand at a range of conservation activities that are helping to turn this piece of important woodland into a resilient environment for the future.Led by our experienced conservation team, you'll get involved with activities such as tree-planting, restoring butterfly habitat and thinning thickets. And when it's time to down tools there are plenty of ways to relax: wander through the wood; do some stretching in the woods; sing songs around the campfire; and share delicious food.The event takes place at Hazel Hill Wood, a secluded 70-acre conservation woodland and retreat centre that offers basic indoor accommodation in off-grid eco-buildings with warm showers. You can also camp. Timing from 6pm on Friday 1st October until 3pm on Sunday 3rd October. Prices include all meals. Most of the accommodation is twin rooms; please expect to share if you come alone. There are a few group/family rooms. Let us know if you're part of a wider group and we'll try and put you together. Children age 4 and up welcome with an adult family member. Sorry, no pets.Joining instructionsWe’re really looking forward to seeing you at Hazel Hill Wood on Friday 1st October for Autumn Conservation Weekend! This email gives you further information about arrival and departure, food, what to bring/wear, and how to get here. Please make sure to share this with anyone else you have booked tickets for.Dietary requirements - please reply ASAP if you have any dietary requirements other than vegan or vegetarian.Arrival and departurePlease arrive at Hazel Hill Wood on Friday 1st October from 6pm. We will show you to your room so you can set up camp (or give guidance on where to pitch if you are actually camping). We plan to serve dinner around 7pm but will make sure to save some for you if you’re arriving later. Once everyone has arrived on Friday evening, we’ll go through the plan for the weekend. During the evening we’ll also ask you to fill in an information form to make us aware of any relevant medical information and your emergency/next of kin contact details. Covid measures, based on gov.uk guidance:<ul><li>Testing - please do a lateral flow test before coming. </li><li>Do not come to Hazel Hill Wood and follow NHS guidance if you have any symptoms of coronavirus (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste) or if you are self-isolating.</li><li>Masks - please wear a mask in the kitchen, and be considerate of others. We will keep the space ventilated, which means it may be chilly inside. Please bring plenty of warm layers.</li></ul>FoodAll food, including meals and snacks, will be provided and will be vegetarian (mostly vegan). We will all pitch in to create meals and will sort out teams for this on Friday evening. If you have any dietary requirements other than vegan, please let us know by replying to this email. If you would like to bring any snacks yourself, feel free to do so. <ul><li>Drinks – we’ll provide hot drinks (tea, coffee, herbal) and water.</li><li>Alcohol – we won't be providing any alcohol but if you would like to bring a bottle of wine or a couple of beers to enjoy in the evenings please do.</li><li>Wanted – apples! Do you have any apples or other fruit or veg in your garden going spare? If you can contribute some that would be greatly appreciated.</li></ul>Evening campfiresA Conservation Weekend at Hazel Hill Wood is not complete without an evening campfire in the Heartwood. Feel free to bring a favourite song, short story or poem to share, and if you’re a musician please bring your acoustic instruments too. What to bringThis kit list is designed as a guide to help keep you warm, comfortable and safe. More information on the buildings can be found here on our website - you will be staying in either the Oakhouse or Hideaway.Clothing<ul><li>Slippers or warm socks for wearing in the buildings as we ask for all other footwear to be removed at the door</li><li>Comfortable, warm clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty during conservation tasks (the main event!). Long trousers and long-sleeved tops are advisable. Due to brambles and other thorns, jeans/tough trousers are preferable to leggings/thin trousers.</li><li>Spare dry clothes for indoors</li><li>Waterproof coat (and trousers if you have them)</li><li>Suitable footwear for outdoor walking: waterproof walking boots/work boots/wellies. Please therefore bring your own battery mobile chargers as necessary. There is patchy mobile phone reception at the wood, some providers get limited signal. We recommend you view this as an opportunity to immerse yourselves in nature and try a mobile-digital-detox! If you do need to be contacted, or to make an external call, we have an emergency mobile phone at the wood which we'll be regularly monitoring - 07487 326370. Getting hereHazel Hill Wood is located off Grimstead Road between the villages of Farley and East Grimstead. Use postcode SP5 1AU. Public transport - travel by coach or train to Salisbury. The easiest way from Salisbury to the wood (7 miles) is by taxi. Classic Cabs on 01722 710111 should charge a fixed rate of £20 (£25 on a Sunday). Others may charge more.
