Celebrating the successful start to AVATAR2 in Glasgow. Get to know the team, the trial and how to get involved, in this local online event.

You are warmly invited to join the University of Glasgow&#x27;s Psychosis Research team at our AVATAR2 Open Day, celebrating the first full quarter of running the AVATAR2 trial in Scotland. This event will be of interest to clinicians working with people who hear voices in NHS Scotland, people with lived experience of hearing voices and supporters. We also think anyone interested in novel psychological therapies, digital health or improving care for people who hear voices will find the event interesting and useful. Meet the team : Come along to meet your local AVATAR2 team, put faces to names and hear more about the different roles within the research team. The AVATAR2 team is part of the University of Glasgow’s Psychosis Research Group, led by Professor Andrew Gumley. This group been at the forefront of developing new therapies for people with distressing voices (also referred to as auditory hallucinations), including digital therapies to promote recovery, wellbeing and empowerment in people who have a diagnosis of schizophrenia. Professor Gumley said: “AVATAR therapy is a new digital therapy that can help people change their relationship with distressing auditory hallucinations. If this trial is successful it will be an important impetus to make AVATAR therapy available across Scotland in the future.” Learn more about AVATAR2 : Learn more about the Avatar therapy, how we are testing it and how the trial is progressing in Glasgow, with talks from Dr Moya Clancy, trial coordinator, and Dr Nikos Xanidis, therapy coordinator. You will also get the opportunity to see how the therapy works in practice with demonstrations of the AVATAR therapy software and the therapy process. Patient &amp; Public Involvement : Patient and public involvement (PPI) (working in collaboration and co-production with people with lived experience of mental health issues) is crucial to conducting high quality research. To ensure a central role for PPI within the AVATAR2 trial, we are working closely with the McPin Foundation (https://mcpin.org/). At this event you will hear more about the McPin Foundation and how they are supporting AVATAR2 with a talk from Dr Vanessa Pinfold, co-founder and research director of the McPin Foundation. Our Glasgow PPI group will also talk about how we are including people with lived experience of hearing voices, or caring for someone who does. Guest Speakers : We are delighted to announce that we will be joined on the day by Dr Alastair Cook, Principal Medical Officer, Scottish Government, and Dr Vanessa Pinfold: Co-founder and research director of the McPin Foundation Get involved!: We invite you to get involved in this exciting trial, and will outline a range of opportunities, including how to recruit to the trial, and how to become a PPI consultant. Your questions answered: Put your questions to the team in a panel Q&amp;A session at the end of the afternoon (16:35). This free event will take place as a Zoom Live Event, subtitles will be available and it will be recorded for viewing afterwards. We look forward to seeing you there!
