How long do acts get to perform?

7 minutes unless you're a featured act confirmed by the host

Question 2

Can I bring my full band?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately no - we can only accommodate acoustic bands with a max of two guitars and one vocal

Question 3

Can I bring my loop pedal, special set up?

Accepted Answer

Yes - however you must explain your set up to our host beforehand via email so that we can place you into a convenient slot where your prep time won't affect the running of the night

Question 4

I will be late - can I still perform?

Accepted Answer

Potentially yes - if you're later than 8pm you should expect to perform towards the end of the night. However depends on how busy we are we can't guarantee your slot if you're late

Question 5

I have political references in my work, is this okay?

Accepted Answer

We value free speech - however any sort of discriminative, homophobic, transphobic and misognyst content will not be welcome with Babel Open Mic. If you're a satirical performer, it's best to consult your fitness to our event with our host first.

Question 6

What if I exceed my time on stage?

Accepted Answer

Towards your last minute, our host will quickly play some music on the PA, queueing you to let you know that you're in your last minute.

Question 7

Can I bring snacks/drinks?

Accepted Answer

It is strictly forbidden to bring any food or drinks to our basement hall (apart from water)

Question 8

What kind of acts do you welcome at your open mic?

Accepted Answer

Spoken word, music, dance, monologues, comedy - basically any valid form of live art!

Question 9

I've booked a ticket on Eventbrite - do I need to do anything else?

Accepted Answer

No - you're all set :)

Question 10

I want to come along as an audience member, should I still book a ticket?

Accepted Answer

No - if you're not performing you can just walk in and enjoy the night

Question 11

I am not sure if I want to perform and would like to see it first, can I decide on the night?

Accepted Answer

Depends on the night - if it's a busy one we can't guarantee an instant spot however on a milder night this can be possible.

Question 12

Can I just walk in to perform?

Accepted Answer

We usually get quite busy on every show - so this will be at your own risk. We will do our best to accommodate you so unless we are VERY busy, we will do our best to give you at least a shorter slot, but then again, it's not guaranteed.

Question 13

I've noticed the tickets are no longer free, what's happening?

Accepted Answer

On very busy nights or occassions where we get booked out instantly, we sometimes get on with second release tickets and these are extra spots and are priced at £5. This money is spent on any possible late license fees to cover the extra time we might have

Question 14

What time should I be there?

Accepted Answer

7pm is your call time - 8pm the show starts

Question 15

Can I send you YouTube karaoke links for my performance?

Accepted Answer

No - all instrumentals must come in a USB or needs to be sent to babelopenmic@gmail.com beforehand
