What to expect!

Get ready to reconnect with the power of play and nature in this fun, hands-on Barmy Bugs workshop designed for educators across all settings.

This playful, one-hour session will:

  • Immerse you in an outdoor exploratory bug hunt, just as your learners would experience it
  • Model the facilitator’s role in supporting free play while encouraging child-led curiosity and respectful engagement with nature
  • Show how play can meet Curriculum for Excellence outcomes and enhance well-being through practical, meaningful learning
  • Provide a foundation in play theory, the Play Work Principles, and the GIRFEC through Play framework
  • Spark reflection through guided questions that explore the benefits, challenges, and advocacy for free play in education
  • Offer resources and real-time modelling to help you confidently lead similar sessions in your own setting

Expect to leave inspired, equipped, and ready to champion outdoor, child-led learning through the lens of play—and with a fresh appreciation for bugs! Ideal for educators and practitioners working in early years and primary settings.
