Bring your lunch and listen to the real-life experiences that Adam Tweed, Innovation Consultant at AbilityNet, faces on a daily basis.

Adam is an Innovation Consultant at AbilityNet and is responsible for keeping the charity informed about new technologies as well as looking to use existing technologies in innovative ways.

With a BA in Film Studies, a BSc in Psychology and a career in IT in both the commercial and education sectors as well as a stint as a Psychological Assistant, he is a self-described jack-of-all-trades. He is a lover of all things tech and is fascinated by design and how it dictates how well (or badly) people engage with technology. He firmly believes that technology should be intuitive and that "if you can break it, it's been designed badly."

Adam will discuss the barriers he faces day-to-day as someone who lives with a mental health condition and the ways in which simple adjustments and considerations can make a world of difference.

This is a taster of the AbilityNet series of lived experience training ‘Don’t Disable Me’. Led by individuals with lived experience of disabilities and AbilityNet’s workplace inclusion experts, we discovered the common issues that people encounter at work, in study and in day-to-day life.

The session will include an “Ask me anything” opportunity for attendees to pose questions to Adam about his experiences and the design decisions that cause friction for him. This is a safe space to ask questions, address taboos and talk about disability, and perceived differences.

Accessibility and inclusion should be embedded in every business. In order for our members to move their Ability agenda forward, it’s important to have Sponsors and Champions. Working with BASDA through the Ability SIG, members can be assured they are gaining information on the latest developments, industry best practices and having access to specialists to help develop clear strategies and goals under this agenda.
