Basic Goat Keeping

Cockerham GoatsCockerham, England
Sunday, Apr 19 from 9:30 am to 4 pm
Overview

Learn about how to care for goats. Based in our commercial meat goat herd we can teach you all the basics you need to strat your own herd op

This course is run within the UK's longest established quality meat goat herd based in Cockerham, Lancashire.

PLEASE Contact us to organise suitable dates.

We run from 9.30 am to 4 pm and try to cover as much as possible in the day.

You would need to bring wellies or boots, waterproofs and warm clothes as appropriate and we ask that none of these have been on another farm or have been well cleaned if they have been.

You will need to bring things to have for lunch but we supply tea and coffee (as and when we remember and it fits in!)

On basic days we try to cover as many topics as possible and tailor them to the questions you ask on the day. Some of the things we discuss are, basic handling, legalities, drenching, worming, injecting, medicines, foot trimming, feeding , fields, fencing, buildings etc. Choosing and breeding meat goats, meat and marketing. With practical hands on sessions in as much of this as possible.

You are supplied with notes for the course but are welcome to take more, photos and videos (for your own use) if you wish.

What's included in the price?

All equipment you need to use on the day is provided as are handouts/note sheets.

We offer an ongoing advice service for course attendees to help them get started with their own herd.

Certain equipment used on the course can be purchased from us as you go forward with your own herd.
