Sewing Skills SessionsJoin us for our Sewing Skills Sessions at The Environment Centre! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced sewer, this in-person event is perfect for anyone looking to enhance their sewing skills. Our friendly and knowledgeable instructors will guide you through various techniques, from basic stitches to advanced repairs. Get hands-on practice and learn valuable tips and tricks to create your own unique masterpieces. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with fellow sewing enthusiasts and unleash your creativity. Mark your calendars and get ready to sew like a pro at Sewing Skills Sessions! Places are Free, but booking is essential. See you there! Participants will be taught basic hand sewing techniques to facilitate the repair of clothes, bags, and household textiles. They are encouraged to bring items in need of repair, such as clothes with holes, seams that are coming apart, loose hems, and the need for replacement buttons and zips. For those intending to replace a zipper, it is advised to bring a new zipper of matching color that is the same size or longer. About Deby McCloy:Deby McCloy is trained in fashion design and has been a professional seamstress for 15 years, specializing in dressmaking and upholstery. She has dedicated several years as a repair café volunteer, contributing her expertise to mend a wide range of garments and textiles. Examples of repairs to bring to sessions-Winter coat that has a tearHole in your jeansButton missingZip brokenStrap come off a bagElastic worn out What individuals need to bring are items requiring repair, with a suggested limit of two or three at most. In the case of a zipper repair, it is advised to bring a replacement zipper. The necessary equipment and materials will be provided, along with a stock of items sourced from the repair café that can be utilized. A handout will be compiled to furnish attendees with instructions to take home as well.
