Thursday, September 1st, 7:30pm. Opera: 'Veritable Michael'. Debating Hall, University of Birmingham Guild of Students. Free, but please register your interest.
Saturday, September 3rd, 1:00pm. Luncheon & Exhibition Tour, Library of Birmingham. Learn about Victorian civic activist George Dawson and his Shakespeare Library, a gift to the people of Birmingham, sponsored by the UoB College of Arts and Law and the Everything to Everybody Project. Free, but limited to first 60 registratnts.
Thursday, September 1st and Friday, September 2nd: Visit three of UoB's outstanding museums, all with Victorian connections: Winterbourne House and Garden, home of the Nettlefold family and their spectacular botanical gardens; the Lapworth Museum of Geology, which features the fascinating late-Victorian archive of Charles Lapworth and his students; and the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, which--in addition to its stellar permanent collection-- is currently featuring Ford Madox Brown's The Last of England, on loan from the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Entrance to all three is free throughout the conference for all BAVS attendees, but they will hold special tours at the following times. Free, but limited to 20 for each tour.
