This “Masterclass&quot; is a virtual tutorial-type event where we will learn and discuss the methodological difficulties associated with measuring capabilities and the use of Bayesian Stochastic Frontier Analysis (BSFA) as a natural framework to estimate capabilities. Using R software, the Masterclass will cover the basics of BSFA and provide an empirical illustration of the approach by examining the impact of Uganda&#x27;s Youth Opportunities Program on the educational capabilities of children in treated households.Speakers:Dr. Heath Henderson- Associate Professor of Economics at Drake University, Department of Economics and Finance, United States.Originally from Rochester, MN, he attended graduate school at American University in Washington, DC where he received a PhD in economics and an MA in international politics. Heath&#x27;s research interests include development economics, econometrics, and computational economics. In his most recent research, Heath has been interested in poverty measurement and has been working on using Bayesian methods to estimate human capabilities. His work has been published in American Journal of Agricultural Economics, World Development, and Journal of Development Studies, among other places.Dr. Lendie Follett - Assistant Professor of Business Analytics at Drake University, Department of Information Management and Business Analytics, United States.She received her Ph.D in statistics from Iowa State University in 2016. Her favorite projects are often interdisciplinary in nature and involve using data to answer complex research questions and make meaningful inference. Her research interests are in the areas of time series, Bayesian models and MCMC techniques. She is particularly interested in estimating stochastic volatility and the use of shrinkage and sparsity priors.
