Be the Difference: Domestic Abuse Workshop
Overview
Join us for this free workshop to find out more about domestic abuse and how you can support someone effectively. Our workshops are free domestic abuse awareness sessions for our communities focussing on what people can do if they know someone who they think might be in an abusive relationship. Family, friends, colleagues, and neighbours are often the first to know that abuse is happening, but it can be difficult to know what to say.
In this 3-hour workshop we explore what domestic abuse is, what it isn’t, some of the signs we might recognise, the dynamics of abuse within relationships and the reasons why it's never as straightforward as 'just leaving'. Most importantly, we will explore how we as active community members can support someone experiencing domestic abuse in a helpful and effective way.
Is this workshop right for me?
People may come along to our workshop for a variety of different reasons. Some people who choose to attend may have personal experience of abuse or know someone who has. Others might simply be interested in finding out more. Everyone is welcome as long as they are committed to working towards a world where domestic abuse is no longer tolerated.
However, if you have your own personal experiences of abuse and think you may need support for this first, or if you're worried about the content of the workshop, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to chat with you first and can put you in touch with relevant support if you decide that’s what you would like.
This workshop is not for people who are currently using abusive behaviours or who are concerned about their own behaviour, again we are happy to signpost you to the right services for you.
