About this event

  • 7 hours

This is a joint initiative between the heritage groups of the Battersea Society and the Friends of Wandsworth Common. This quaint custom takes place on Rogation Sunday – when historically a procession of church parishioners would proceed around the boundary of their parish and pray for its protection. Participants can either complete the whole 11 miles – earning a special certificate to prove it! – or join a section of the walk at a designated time. There will be staging posts at Nine Elms, on Clapham Common and on Wandsworth Common where participants will be able to learn more about the history of the areas visited. More information on beating the bounds can be found on the Battersea Society website (Heritage section). The walk will start and end at St Mary’s Church.

Each year we create a programme of talks, walks, visits to places of history and culture and social get togethers for our members – as well as public meetings and gatherings that focus on local issues and campaigns.
