About this event
Beginner and Intermediate Photography workshop
Local photographers Phil Wey and Justin Holmes will lead a photography workshop for beginner and intermediate photographers. Participants should bring their own digital camera, but any kind of camera will do (including phone cameras). Film cameras can also be brought, but we won't be able to provide any immediate feedback on your photographs!
The workshop will include:
- a discussion of the creative choices which a photographer can make at the time of taking a picture;
- a hands-on session during which participants will be encouraged to take photographs in and around the Trinity Theatre building and then review them;
- some hints and tips on how to use computer software to process images after they've been taken, both to correct things which went wrong and to make images which go beyond simple photographic realism.
Attendees will be contacted with more information before the event. The cost of the workshop covers hire of the space and facilities required. This workshop is suitable for adults of all abilities.
This workshop runs alongside the art exhibition 'Waste', organised by Tunbridge Wells Friends of the Earth. For more information on this please see: https://www.trinitytheatre.net/events/friends-of-the-earth-waste/
We are also hosting other workshops, see our eventbrite for more information on these.
About the facilitators:
Justin is an amateur wildlife photographer, interested in all wildlife from the very small to the very large. In 2021 he made a resolution to take at least one photograph every day of the year, and, whilst most of them weren't very good, he learnt a lot from the experience. Justin's work was exhibited at the Tunbridge Wells Friends of the Earth Art Exhibitions in 2023 and 2024.
Phil is a photographer based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent and landscape images are his primary interest, ranging from rural views to cityscapes and from grand vistas to close-up details. He is drawn to strong lines or shapes and contrasts in light and colour that create compositions which the viewer will find attractive. He works in both colour and black and white, uses digital equipment including an infra-red camera and produces his own fine art prints when possible to give full control of the creative process.
A sample of their works can be seen below.
