Beginner Nalbinding Workshop (Learn to knit like a viking!)
Travel back in time to learn the ancient & officially endangered craft of nalbinding - famously known as the knitting style of the vikings.
Nalbinding is an ancient and officially endangered heritage craft. With the oldest known remnants dating back to 6000 BC, it was used worldwide and has been made most famous as the pre-knitting style of the Vikings.
Join me as we travel back in time to learn this unique craft and take home your own viking style pouch, perfect for coins, treasures, trinkets, or even mobile phones. The sizing and style will give you all the skills you need to move onto bigger projects like hats and mittens.
In this workshop you will learn:
👉A history of nalbinding
👉How to start and finish your items
👉The renowned Oslo stitch
👉Looping technique
👉Increasing and decreasing your stitches
👉How to join chains
👉How to choose and adjust tensioning for styling
This workshop includes 5 hours of practical tuition, all tools and materials to use on the day, and a finished item to take home! PLUS... A full beginner nalbinding kit to take home so you can continue practising with everything you will need. This includes a naal (needle), 100% wool, and full coloured photographic instruction booklet.
Teas and coffees are included but please bring your own packed lunch, which we can enjoy over looking the stunning views of the Moray Firth.
Attendance is kept small so that you can receive as much 1:1 support as needed. This session is aimed at 12yrs+ and complete beginner level so no yarn caft experience is necessary!
