Beginners Carpentry for the Terrified
This beginner-friendly carpentry workshop offers a safe and supportive introduction to working with wood.
About the event:
Have you always wondered about making something out of wood but been too scared to try?
This workshop offers a safe, supportive space for absolute beginners to build confidence in the basic skills needed to make simple items for creative projects or around the home, using found wood.
We will cover:
• What to ask for when you go to a builders’ merchant or DIY shop
• Gaining confidence using an electric drill and impact driver
• How to plan your work, measure accurately, and mark out wood
• How to saw by hand
• How to select and use the right screws and fasteners
We will explore what the group is inspired to make with the available found wood and create something together – building confidence through hands-on making and shared learning.
About the facilitator:
Nor Greenhalgh is a visual artist specialising in place-based and community projects. She has extensive experience delivering public art projects, including both 2D mural work and 3D spatial design, often in partnership with charities and community groups. She also works as Buildings & Development Manager at Braziers, overseeing the refurbishment and redecoration of historic spaces across the estate.
