Event description

Would you love to learn how to use a sewing machine and start making your own clothes and accessories?

Want to alter, or make gorgeous things for your home or friends?

Then this is the course for you! You will learn to sew from scratch in a gorgeous womanswear design studio in Belfast, with MaryRose, the studio owner.

She is a womanswear designer with over 20 years in the fashion industry, who has designed for many well known high street brands in London such as Oasis, M&S, Debenhams, Matthew Williamson and more, before her return home to Belfast to start her own label.

MaryRose will teach you to sew on a machine from scratch, perfect for absolute beginners who do not know how to use a sewing machine - you will have mastered the machine by the time the course finishes!

The course includes:

1. Get to know a sewing machine:

How to set it up, thread the machine, wind the bobbin, use the dials, understand how the machine works.

2. Learn to stitch correctly

Sew staight lines, sew curves, understand seam allowances and how to sew fabrics together using the correct techniques.

3. Two sewing projects

You will make a gorgeous tote bag and cushion - yours to admire, keep and use!

4. We supply the sewing patterns needed for your tote bag and cushion - they are yours to take away and use again and again....

5. During the class, we provide endless cups of tea and cake to enjoy while sewing your gorgeous creations.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is perfect for absolute beginners who have never used a sewing machine before, do not know how to cut or pin fabrics, do not understand seam allowances and have never sewn before.

Do I need to bring a sewing machine with me?

No - we supply all machines and equipment you will need.

How many students are in the class?

Only 4 students are in the class, we keep classes small to ensure loads of teacher / pupil attention, our classes are fun, relaxed and a great way to get a bit of 'me time' while making new friends!

How much does the course cost?

The course includes 10 hours of teaching, the use of all machinery and equipment, your sewing patterns to take away, and relevant handouts to take away and keep.

The course cost is £125.

What do I need to bring with me?

MaryRose will tell you what to bring with you for your two projects when you start the course.

Can I advance onto another course afterwards?

Of course!!!! This term we will be offering many levels of classes from beginners to dressmaking to pattern drafting and industry masterclasses, so you can progress at your own pace to whatever level you want to achieve!

Any other important stuff I should know before booking?

Just a few things to bear in mind:

1. Please make sure you can attend the first class, as it's the time when we learn all about the machine and how to use it - this is vital to your success in the course.

2. We have so much to learn in each class - late arrivals disrupt teaching and we are so busy we can't recap for anyone who arrives 10 minutes or more late. There is parking at Conway Mill, and it is easy to find - only a couple of minutes from Belfast city centre.

3. We can not split classes between two people- one person attends all. (Classes are for adults age 18+).

4. Should you find you can not make the classes, you can transfer the name so someone can attend the course in your place. Due to the niche nature of classes, we do not offer refunds.

Can I call the studio for more info if I have any questions?

Absolutely, give us a call on 07913 166947 (mobile) / 02895 215683 (studio) , we are happy to help.

PLEASE NOTE: E MAIL THE ATTENDEES NAME, AND CONTACT DETAILS ON BOOKING TO:, as these details are not provided by the booking agent.
