About this event
- Event lasts 1 hour
This beginners knitting course is open to anyone aged 7+ . If you have always wanted to try it but never got round to it, now is your chance. You may want to learn alongside your child/teen.
Our instructors, Charlotte, Kim & Maureen have over 100 years of knitting experience between them and years of experience in teaching different crafts.
There are many advantages of teaching a child to knitting.
It improves fine motor skills and hand to eye coordination. It helps with development of basic maths skills when counting stiches and working in pattern.
It develops resilience in overcoming problems and errors, it generates a great sense of achievement when new techniques have been learned and projects completed.
The advantages for adults are numerous too! It is a really mindful craft that can distract you from the stresses of everyday life. Learning a new skill helps stimulate the brain.
Knitting is a great way of expressing creativity, working with colour and texture and producing unique items that no one else has.
From a sustainability perspective knitting fosters an understanding of the time and efforts involved in creating an item from scratch which may then support a better understanding of some of the ethical issues associated with 'Fast Fashion' and help people reduce their consumption.
This Workshop is limited to a maximum of 8 people so that everyone gets a good level of attention. Primary School Children must be accompanied by an adult (who can wait in the sofa area if not participating), secondary school children may attend independently.
If you are participating as parent & child you will both need tickets.
The Hub is located upstairs in The Glades next to HMV and Waterstones.
