About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours

Lucy began quilting in Spring 2020 and fell in love fast! Inspired by modern quilters who are reviving this art for the 21st century with clean lines and bright colour pallets. She also loves learning about the rich history and stories behind quilting as an artform. Although quite new to quilting, Lucy learned to sew very young, studying Textile Design at college and then Stage and Costume Design at university. She picked her sewing machine back up during lockdown, when fabric shops were closed there were only small scraps and old clothes available at home, the perfect place to start a quilt!

Now she buys her fabrics and materials from local suppliers across Yorkshire. Lucy enjoys the waste-free, eco-friendly and thrifty nature of quilting, using every scrap of fabric to make a product that can be treasured for years to come.

In this workshop we will work through every step to make a quilt, starting with choosing fabrics, patterns, piecing, sandwiching, quilting and finally making your own binding.

We'll be using these techniques to make a 30x30cm mini quilt in your choice of fabrics and colours which you'll be able to take home with you.

With all these skills you'll then be equipt to make any kind of quilt at home, from cushions and jackets to bed throws!

All equipment and materials provided – but please feel free to bring along any special fabrics you might have at home that you'd like to incorporate into your quilt.

The Craft House was established in 2016 in Saltaire by April Chamberlain, who continues to manage the business. Having started in Saltaire, The Craft House is now run from new, larger, premises at 109-111 Main Street, Bingley. We have a lovely ground floor cafe and welcoming workshop spaces on the first floor (reached by stairs with two handrails). We offer a vibrant programme of art, craft and textile workshops and courses for adults, enabling you to develop existing skills as well as try new activities. Working closely with a team of talented artist/maker tutors, we provide expertly-run classes in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We cater for a range of skill levels, from first-time participants to people with existing skills (including other professional artists and makers looking to develop their techniques). Our emphasis is on encouraging creativity and enjoyment whilst passing on key skills. We also cater for private parties and events - please telephone us or call into the cafe to discuss. Please note that all our events are subject to us achieving minimum booking requirements, as we need to ensure they are commercially viable for our tutors - if we have to cancel an event, we will refund your ticket and give you as much notice as possible.
